Boudoir photography  is such a beautiful and sensual genre of photography. What I love about it is that it enables women to think and see themselves in a positive light. Often times our clients become empowered and have a new sense of confidence when they leave their session with us.

Unfortunately, with all the positive things that come from boudoir, there are misconceptions that may scare women away from having this experience for themselves. This is why I am making this article. This is my attempt to debunk these common misconceptions about Boudoir Photography.

BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY IS DEGRADING TO WOMEN

In todays age, anyone can pick up a camera and call themselves a photographer. Some of these photographers go too far and really over sexualize the genre of boudoir photography. They really take out the true essence of boudoir photography.

Our purpose is not to degrade women at all. Boudoir is truly an art form and we do just the opposite of degrading women. My team and I empower women to regain their confidence by treating them like royalty for the day. We pamper our clients with hair and makeup and then create amazing images that remind them that they are beautiful just as they are. I work both commercial beauty and boudoir and I can say that first hand, professional models are normal people just like you. The only thing that makes the difference in the images is the team that help create the images that you see.  This is our chance to be your own glam squad team and help you see that you to can empower yourself and become your own supermodel and strut that sense of self confidence as well.

THIS IS JUST A GIFT FOR MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER

This is one of the greatest misconceptions. I’ve had plenty of clients put this as their number one reason that they would like to have a boudoir session. I can tell you that this is far from the truth. The more I began to shoot boudoir it became more evident.

It can be a gift, however, this experience is no doubt a gift for YOU! Many of our clients have told us, this is the first time they are viewing themselves from the outside looking in. They are realizing how beautiful they really are. My clients tell me that through this experience, they feel like a woman. Not just a mom or wife. They feel amazing about themselves. How awesome is that!!

I HAVE TO BE IN SHAPE TO DO A BOUDOIR SESSION

This is so not true at all. This may be my favorite misconception to prove wrong. I have had the pleasure to create images of women from all shapes, size and ages. I can say first hand that there is beauty in everyone. I just help you see it.

From petite to curvy. From college to grandmothers, every woman has been in a different stage of their life and all are beautiful in their individual ways.

I HAVE TO POSE NUDE

This is absolutely not true. You can be just as sexy and confident with or without clothes. A boudoir session is completely based off your comfort zone. You can be as adventurous or as modest as you would like. There are no rules when it comes to how you would like to have your session captured.

What you chose to wear should reflect your personality and beliefs. If you are not comfortable going topless or nude, you do not have have to. A few of my clients wear clothes the whole time. I’M NOT CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO BE ON CAMERA

I’ve been photographing women for over 8 years and I can tell you that 99% of our clients do not feel confident in front  of the camera even some of the models that I shoot beauty campaigns with. This is generally the first stage of the process. I go by a motto that life begins just on the other side of fear. It is a process to get comfortable and it is all built into the Classy Boudoir Boutique experience.

First we will have a phone consultation, then we will connect several times via phone, email, video chat. It’s all up to you. We have a fun personality questionnaire that will help calm nerves. Clients love when we talk about their answers to the questionnaire. By the time the session date has arrived, It will feel like we are good friends and it allows you to unleash your inner bombshell you’ve had the whole time.

I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT FIRST 

I’m going to say this out loud. NO YOU DO NOT! You are gorgeous just as you are. Im all for you looking and feeling your best but this is by far is one of the most used misconceptions of all time. This really pushes you back from booking your session or even not doing a session at all. What if you never reach your target weight loss? What if life passes you by as you wait year by year for that perfect moment for you to have that perfect body?

You are beautiful just as you are. Right now. Right in this moment. Did you know that perfection is a myth. Perfection is simply unattainable. Just know that wherever you are in your journey. My skill in lighting and posing will enable you to look great. I also retouch images in photoshop. Think of it as icing on the cake. My best advice would be to set a date and book your session. Let this be your motivation  you’ll need to reach your goals.

THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE

I feel that everyone should have a boudoir experience but it doesn’t have to be once. There are a handful of clients that have retuned to work with me on several occasions.

A boudoir experience can to so many things such as: Document the milestones of life as a woman, Be that icing on the cake after reaching a great body goal, Bridal boudoir, Pregnancy boudoir, What about after your 3rd child, or even a 40 and fabulous session. See there are many reasons to have a boudoir session throughout your lifetime.

BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY TOO EXPENSIVE

This is true, Boudoir photography is priced higher than your average family session. However, this is something that you’re going to do less often. Just like anything else you buy, the more specialized it is, the higher the cost.

The good news is that I offer various packages 6 to be exact. These packages range depending on how luxurious you would like your experience to be. This experience is an investment in yourself and that is something that no-one can take from you. Why? because you deserve it. A boudoir experience  can be more affordable than you think. I offer payment plans as well.
